ASA Certifications and Sailing Trips

Sunshine Coast Adventures specializes in adventure sailing programs in Key Largo, the first of the beautiful Florida Keys. Our Florida Keys sailing school offers a variety of sailing programs, from charters and sailing instruction, to snorkeling and deep-sea fishing.

	We emphasize the power and fun of experiential learning with an appreciation of the only living coral reef in North America. As an American Sailing Association (ASA) affiliated sailing school, we provide sailing instruction from basic sailing to advanced cruising and coastal navigation. Courses can be taken individually or combined into a live-aboard adventure cruise vacation.

	ASA101 - Basic Keelboat Sailing: For beginning sailors, no experience needed. This 3-day course is an introduction to sailing and combines visual classroom presentation material with hands-on coaching aboard a very clean and comfortable sailboat. Course fees include the "Sailing Fundamentals" textbook (Parts 1 through 4 are used for this course), ASA logbook, ASA membership, instructor time, and the written and practical exams and delicious lunches aboard. Additionally, this course is approved as a National Safe Boating course. Price: $895 per person. Maximum enrollment: 4 participants

	ASA103 - Basic Coastal Cruising (prerequisite: ASA101): This 3-day course will familiarize you with the basics of an auxiliary diesel engine powered cruising sailboat, increase your knowledge of boat systems and seamanship, and build your confidence in docking, anchoring, sail trim, and basic navigation. Visual presentation material is combined with hands-on coaching. The text for this course is "Sailing Fundamentals" parts 5 through 7. The course fee includes one dinner at an overnight anchorage, instruction, and the written and practical exams. Price: $995 per person. Maximum enrollment: 4 participants

	ASA104 - Bareboat Chartering (prerequisite: ASA 103): This 4-day intermediate-level course will help you achieve the skills and confidence to skipper your own boat or charter a bareboat (without hired crew). You will learn more about vessel systems such as electrical, plumbing, diesel engine systems. You will expand your anchoring, seamanship and coastal navigation skills, and receive an introduction to electronic navigation instruments such as GPS and chart-plotter. We anchor out most nights but may come to a dock, once or twice during the week. We also mix in some snorkeling at the coral reef and some fishing while sailing. All meals (mostly organic) are included. It makes for a perfect cruising experience. Also includes ASA certifications, textbooks, ASA membership fees and taxes. For your comfort, we also provide sheets, pillows and comforters. Price: $1395 per person. Maximum enrollment: 4 participants

	ASA105 - Coastal Navigation (prerequisite: none): This is a theory course that enables the skills to navigate within sight of land. A self-study DVD and workbook is provided with course registration. When ready you may take the written exam at our facility. Price: $595 per participant

	ASA106 - Advanced Coastal Cruising (prerequisites: ASA101 and ASA105): Advanced sailing and seamanship, weather, engineering, and safety are emphasized during this 5-day course, which includes day and nighttime passagemaking. Price: $1995 per person. Maximum enrollment: 3 participants

	Custom Live-aboard Cruise Vacations: Any two (ASA101-103) or three (ASA101-103-104) consecutive ASA courses may be combined into a 5-day or 7 day live-aboard adventure cruise. Alternatively you may take just one course during a 5-day trip if you prefer to have plenty of time for relaxation, snorkeling, reef-exploration, fishing, etc. We anchor out most nights but may come to a dock, once or twice during the week. We also mix in some snorkeling at the coral reef and some fishing while sailing. All meals (mostly organic) are included. It makes for a perfect cruising experience. If you don't have any sailing experience, we strongly suggest that you only take 2 ASA certification levels in a week's time. This will make your overall sailing experience a lot more enjoyable. Also includes ASA certifications, textbooks, ASA membership fees and taxes. For your comfort, we also provide sheets, pillows and comforters. Price: 5 day $1995 per person / 7 day $2495 per person 10% off if you book two or more people

	Couples Sailing Course: Are you planning to go sailing or cruising with your partner? If so, then this course is for you. It will teach you and your partner how to work together to make sailing safe and fun. You will learn the basics and practice fundamentals so that both of you feel comfortable with all duties aboard: steering, navigating, handling lines, provisioning, tacking, jibing, anchoring, maintaining your future boat and docking with confidence. This is an all-inclusive course. We anchor out most nights but may come to a dock, once or twice during the week. We also mix in some snorkeling at the coral reef and some fishing while sailing. All meals (mostly organic) are included. It makes for a perfect cruising experience. Also includes ASA certifications, textbooks, ASA membership fees and taxes. For your comfort, we also provide sheets, pillows and comforters. Price: 3 day live aboard ASA sailing course: $2250 per couple 5 day live aboard ASA sailing combo course: $3950 per couple 6 day live aboard ASA sailing combo course: $4400 per couple 7 day live aboard ASA sailing combo course: $4950 per couple

	Honeymoon Sailing Adventure Vacation: Combine sailing, snorkeling, kayaking and fishing into a weeklong live aboard adventure in the beautiful islands of the Florida Keys. A week filled with exploration, adventures and relaxation. You may choose to include ASA sailing certifications or not. 5 day Honeymoon Sailing Adventure Vacation $3950 includes the use of the boat, the instructor's time, all meals aboard (mostly organic), fishing licenses and all taxes. 7 day Honeymoon Sailing Adventure Vacation $4950 includes the use of the boat, the instructor's time, all meals aboard (mostly organic), fishing licenses and all taxes.

	Two or Three Day Weekend Sailing Getaway Enjoy a 2 or 3 day weekend sailing getaway in Key Largo, FL Sail and Cruise the Florida Keys aboard a 41’ cruising sailboat. Spend the night at anchor under a starry sky, enjoy delightful sunsets, snorkel colorful coral reefs,, explore beautiful mangrove islands and its wildlife by kayak, fish while sailing or just read and relax while our captain steers you around the turquoise waters of Key Largo, FL.
