Captain Jay Pisaro

When Captain Jay was just 7 years old, his father bought a MacGregor 22’ and they sailed on the Finger Lakes and Lake Ontario. He remembers what an awesome experience this was for him - learning together and having amazing adventures with his Dad. He went on to graduate from Rochester Institute of Technology, worked as a Mechanical Engineer and later went into designing and building homes.

Twenty years later, Captain Jay left his career, followed his heart, and bought “Positive Vibrations”, a Catalina 30. He went on to get his ASA certifications and then set sail for the Bahamas with his first mate, George, an amazing 75lbs dog. Together, they cruised 3,000 miles to the Bahamas and back.

This trip inspired him to get his United States Coast Guard 50 Ton Master’s License, MCA Yachtmaster certification, STCW and ASA Instructor credentials. He worked in the BVI for a short time, took a few offshore deliveries and began teaching sailing in Key Largo in 2012.

In March 2015, he bought his current sailboat “Yemaya,” a Shannon 38, in Havana, Cuba. With his Mother as his First Mate this time, they sailed her back to Key Largo and began restoring her to her original beauty. She has since made yet another crossing, this time to the Bahamas. Captain Jay is always ready for the next big adventure!
